Another Republican Governor Defies Trump Over His Cruel Immigration Policy

The Trump administration’s cruel “zero tolerance” immigration policy that has resulted in 2,000 migrant children being separated from their families at the U.S. border in only 6 weeks, has sparked outrage. The photographs of children in cages and the audio of kids crying for their parents show just how appalling Donald Trump’s policy is. Wikipedia, the user-edited online encyclopedia, has even added this shameful chapter of U.S. history to its lists of concentration camps. In response to Trump’s inhumane policy, at least 4 Governors, two of them Republican, have defied the former reality show star by refusing his order to deploy National Guard troops to the U.S. border with Mexico.

On Tuesday, Maryland’s Republican governor added to the list and recalled his state’s National Guard from New Mexico over the Trump administration “zero tolerance” immigration policy.

Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted that his state’s National Guard will remain in Maryland until the administration ends its awful policy.

“Until this policy of separating children from their families has been rescinded, Maryland will not deploy any National Guard resources to the border,” Hogan tweeted.

“Earlier this morning, I ordered our 4 crewmembers & helicopter to immediately return from where they were stationed in New Mexico.”

Hogan joins Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker (R), New York Gov. Cuomo (D), and Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) in defying Trump over his immigration policy.

On Tuesday, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced that he was ordering the return of a Virginia National Guard helicopter from the southern border over Trump’s family separation policy.

Also on Tuesday, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) announced that he would recall three members of the National Guard deployed at the U.S.- Mexico border over the Trump administrations “zero tolerance” policy.

Cooper tweeted that the policy, which has resulted in the separations of thousands of undocumented children from their families, was “cruel” and required a “strong response.”

“The cruel policy of tearing children away from their parents requires a strong response, and I am recalling the three members of the North Carolina National Guard from the border,” Cooper tweeted.

This marks six states so far.

And if it’s such a good policy then why is Trump lying about it? On Twitter, he has blamed the previous administration and Democrats, even though Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the new policy in April and chief of staff John Kelly discussed it last year as a means to stop migrants from entering the country.

As a shock to no one ever, the troops that the so-called president* sent to the U.S.– Mexico border in April are performing menial tasks such as shoveling horse shit, feeding horses, and changing flat tires.

It’s all for show. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is holding children hostage in order to get funding for his ego-wall.
