GOP Toady Calls For FBI ‘Purge’ So They Don’t Take Down The Donald

For a party that loves to try to brand itself as being the champions of law and order, it’s more than a little ironic to see Republicans coming out of the woodwork to attack the FBI, the premier law enforcement agency in the United States.

In their obsequious loyalty to Donald Trump, GOP members of Congress such as Francis Rooney (R-FL) are only too happy to question the motives of any agency that dares to investigate Donald Trump for being a traitor. So on Tuesday, Rooney said this about the FBI during an appearance on MSNBC:

“I don’t want to discredit them. I would like to see the directors of those agencies purge it.

“And say, look, we’ve got a lot of great agents, a lot of great lawyers here, those are the people that I want the American people to see and know the good works being done, not these people who are kind of the deep state.”

Ah yes, the deep state. That’s a favorite talking point that originated with the tinfoil hat wearing crowd who think Alex Jones and Sean Hannity are actually journalists instead of propagandists who would have been at home working for Joseph Goebbels back in the Thirties.

When the host pressed Rooney further, he then brought up the matter of Peter Strzok, an FBI agent who criticized Trump in emails with a woman he was dating. Strzok was on Mueller’s team, but the moment those emails came to light, he was immediately booted off the case. But to those who are eager to bathe Trump’s shoes with their saliva, none of that matters. All that matters is that Mueller and the entire federal law enforcement system be discredited in order to keep Trump in power. To hell with the law!

But what Rooney and others in Congress who are so eager to defend Trump and excoriate the FBI forget is this: The more they rail against the law applying to everyone — even the president — the more questions they raise about their own loyalty.
