Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ attorney, dropped a bombshell on Tuesday, revealing that Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen received $500,000 in the months after the 2016 election from a company run by a Russian oligarch with ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Take a deep breath because there’s more. Cohen also gained access to as much as $774,000 through two financial transactions during the 2016 campaign as he sought to fix problems for his boss, according to the Wall Street Journal. Also, Cohen received money from a Swiss drug company, Novartis, AT&T, and Korea Aerospace Industries. But, because special counsel is ten steps ahead of team Trump, it was revealed on Wednesday that Robert Mueller contacted Novartis last year about payments it made to Michael Cohen.
On Wednesday, the global healthcare company Novartis said that Trump’s longtime personal attorney reached out to Novartis’s then-CEO Joe Jimenez in 2017, “promising access to not just Trump, but also the circle around him. It was almost as if we were hiring him as a lobbyist.”
“He promised access to the new administration,” Eric Althoff, a spokesman for the company said. “Keep in mind – it was a whole new environment and the usual players were no longer in [their] role.”
Then, “toward the end of the meeting, everyone realized this was a probably a slippery slope to engage [Michael Cohen].”
Instead of canceling the one-year contract worth $1.2 million, Novartis allowed it to lapse and not run the risk of ticking off Trump: “It might have caused anger.”
Cohen is not registered as a lobbyist.
Cohen did not register as a lobbyist. But at this point, the penalties for failing to register as a lobbyist are the least of his worries. https://t.co/xHeqWRXYSb

And we’re sure this is totally a coincidence.
There’s never been a better moment for a reminder that there’s still a ONE MILLION DOLLAR DONATION to Trump’s inauguration that’s COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS https://t.co/1plMExmkIW

All of the aforementioned companies paid Trump’s attorney through his Essential Consultants LLC, a Delaware-registered shell company. The payments to Cohen went to the same shell company he set up to pay $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels just before the election to keep her quiet about the alleged sexual encounter she had with Trump just after Melania gave birth to their son.
We know this all sounds like a badly scripted soap opera, but conservatives thought it would be a keen idea to elect a former reality show star, who is also a serial bankruptcy filer, to lead the most powerful country on Earth. And here we are. Remember when Trump said there would be ‘pay for play’ if Hillary was elected?
He also said, “She’s likely to be under investigation for criminality for a very, very long time to come.”
“We’re going to be tied up in court for the rest of our lives with this deal,” he added, referring to Hillary if she’s elected. “She’s not going to win the election, but I’m just saying. If Hillary is elected, she will be under protracted criminal investigation likely followed by the trial of a sitting president. This is just what we need.”
And here we are.
