What the hell is going on in Idaho? On Monday, a GOP candidate for Lt. governor made his harsh feelings about women who have abortions quite clear.
State Senator Bob Nonini from Coeur d’Alene made this comment during a candidate forum hosted by CrossPolitic (a conservative Christian podcast) in Moscow, Idaho. He said:
There should be no abortion and anyone who has an abortion should pay.
When the moderators pressed him about whether or not the death penalty should apply, he nodded his head in agreement. Of course, this would only happen if Idaho decided to make abortion a criminal offense – which it has yet to do, though bills have been introduced and fallen through.
According to the Associated Press, in a phone interview Nonini said:
I don’t believe in any exceptions. There is always another option. Women should be charged…I firmly believe if the penalties were tougher, there would be fewer abortions.
No, you idiot, there would be more deaths of the mothers because they would go to back alley abortion clinics and die from bleeding out or infections.
Two other candidates were also at this forum- a businesswoman of Idaho Falls, Idaho Janice McGeachin, and Steve Yates -former Idaho Republican Party Chairman. Both of whom said they believe abortion is murder but they stopped short of saying the death penalty was a good punishment for abortion.
Perhaps they understand that if you force a woman to give birth you probably shouldn’t turn around and murder that same woman because she may not be giving that child up for adoption. Of course, a group called Abolish Abortion Idaho started a signature campaign last year to charge both mothers and the doctors who perform the abortions with first-degree murder apparently hasn’t realized that yet.
Nobody seems to think about the kids once they’re out of the womb, but killing a baby IN the womb is just evil. But if they end up in the foster care system and never get adopted, they’ll be okay!
Idaho is the same state where GOP Rep. Vito Barbieri asked a doctor if women could swallow miniature cameras so doctors could do remote gynecological exams in 2015.
Apparently, he doesn’t know his anatomy very well. But then, the Sex Education Bill in Idaho hasn’t been updated since the 1970’s, so that may explain some of his stupidity.
The rest…well I suspect the GOP has taken up his only other brain cell, not unlike Nonini.
