On Thursday, House Democrats erupted into chants of “USA! USA! USA!” following a fiery speech by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md) but Republicans refused to join in. Hoyer condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin for meddling in our election and accused Republicans of not doing enough to ensure the security of future elections. Republicans were focused on eliminating funding for election security FOR SOME REASON. In fact, every single Republican also voted down a measure to subpoena the translator from Donald Trump’s private meeting with Putin and that’s not suspicious at all (wink wink).
“Surely, we can rise above pandering to party and Putin to act on behalf of our freedom and our security,” Hoyer said, which garnered applause from Democrats, as the gavel banged while the House was called to order.
Hoyer’s speech came as the House moved forward with a spending bill which will eliminate new funding for election security grants to states, and of course, Democrats protested the jaw-dropping move, and say that Republicans are not doing enough to prevent Russian meddling in U.S. elections.
“We have sworn an oath to defend our constitution and our liberty against all enemies foreign and domestic,” Hoyer said.
.@WhipHoyer on motion to recommit to spending bill for more election security funds: “Surely we can rise above pandering to party and Putin to act on behalf of our freedom and our security.”

Republicans are refusing to spend money in order to keep our elections free from outside interference but throwing a military parade for Trump in order to feed his massive ego is OK. If they can gift their rich friends with a tax cut, they can ensure that our elections are not attacked by any hostile foreign government again.
