As Donald Trump continues to shuffle his cabinet and staff like deck chairs on the Titanic, reports suggest that Trump will soon dismiss his National Security Adviser, Attorney General, and Chief of Staff.
Yet despite all of these staff moves, the White House insists that everything is fine, there’s no need to worry, and there’s certainly no chaos at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
But as the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and the way senior counselor Kellyanne Conway acted Thursday morning on Fox & Friends it’s clear that members of the administration are on edge.
When Conway was asked about the reports, she got very defensive, commenting:
“I don’t have any personnel announcements. I have to say I’m just fascinated about all the stories about palace intrigue and personnel, and a lack of stories about policy, it really is amazing. Thank God the president himself goes out across the country, like he did for two solid days this week, and takes his message directly to the people.”
Considering that Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson via Twitter and is said to be preparing to toss others overboard, it seems fair to wonder who will be removed next. As for policy, everyone knows the only policy Donnie has is one of self-promotion.
Trying desperately to change the subject, Conway then told the story of a cafeteria worker in Missouri who tearfully thanked Trump for his tax cut.
Co-host Steve Doocy noted that while Fox tries to focus on policy, the recent personnel decisions were also news, telling Conway:
“This has been a big week for personnel changes. That’s why there’s this speculation.”
Conway almost shrieked as she responded:
“The president has this right!”
No one said he didn’t have the right, Kellyanne, but you sure seem upset that anyone would ask about the subject.
If Trump really wants to do himself some good, he should also purge his staff of paid liars like Conway. But he probably won’t, if only because he has an affinity for those who traffic in “alternative facts” as much as he does.
