Almost immediately after the Washington Post published its initial story about the victims of disgraced former judge Roy Moore, who he had inappropriate contact with and in some cases molested, one prominent Republican operative formulated a plan.
You know this guy: He’s James O’Keefe, the “undercover” reporter who deceptively edits videos to try and make his targets look bad — those targets, of course, always being agencies favorable to causes that Republicans hate.
During the first year of Barack Obama’s first term, O’Keefe and his team, known ironically as “Project Veritas,” capitalized on the racist hatred toward Obama by jumping on the bandwagon of those mocking and belittling “community organizers,” a position once held by Obama. The most famous group of community organizers, who held voter registration drives and otherwise did what that type of group does, was ACORN. You know the rest of the story.
Even though every “undercover” video by O’Keefe showing any wrongdoing by ACORN has been thoroughly debunked, it was believed for just long enough to shut ACORN down.
Fast-forward a few years, and O’Keefe decided to use the same tactics on Planned Parenthood, this time editing his videos to make it look like the legendary healthcare organization was “selling” parts of fetuses after abortions were performed. The outcry was even worse than the ACORN scandal, and Republicans across the country once again demanded that the agency be shut down. They have included provisions to de-fund Planned Parenthood in almost every piece of legislation they’ve introduced since then.
And again — literally one hundred percent of the videos O’Keefe produced were lies, edited to make it look like things were happening that weren’t.
Now O’Keefe is back again, after hits and misses over the years. ACORN and Planned Parenthood seemed to achieve their desired effect, but his attacks on NPR and various other “liberal” organizations fizzled. But the entrepreneur figured he had a winner when he heard about Roy Moore, and he hired a woman to pose as a “victim” of the would-be Senator.
In a series of interviews over two weeks, the woman shared a dramatic story about an alleged sexual relationship with Moore in 1992 that led to an abortion when she was 15. During the interviews, she repeatedly pressed Post reporters to give their opinions on the effects that her claims could have on Moore’s candidacy if she went public.
O’Keefe knew it wasn’t enough to just “bust” the Post having believed a victim. He had to make sure it looked like they had a vested interest in pushing stories that would harm Moore’s candidacy. Unfortunately for O’Keefe, the Post didn’t take the bait, and shortly after having conducted the aforementioned interviews, saw the woman make contact with him, despite insisting to the newspaper that she didn’t work for anyone after she was pressed on inconsistencies in her story.
Monday morning, Post reporters saw her walking into the New York offices of Project Veritas, an organization that targets the mainstream news media and left-leaning groups. The organization sets up undercover “stings” that involve using false cover stories and covert video recordings meant to expose what the group says is media bias.
In fact, reporters for the Post ran into O’Keefe himself, who refused to answer any questions.
The Post article itself details how they came to find out that the woman, Jaime Phillips, was working for O’Keefe, including tracking down a GoFundMe page soliciting money to help with a move to New York to “combat the lies and deceipt (sic) of the liberal MSM” and a job listing from Project Veritas that listed as its goal “To adopt an alias persona, gain access to an identified person of interest and persuade that person to reveal information.”
It looks like James O’Keefe is going to have to scrap yet another one of his disgusting charades. The fact that he hasn’t faced some kind of punishment other than his conviction over the ACORN affair is a travesty.
